Catch-catch-catch... seems as if all we talk about is a high-elbow catch. For good reason. Nothing will move you through the water more effectively than an early, high-elbow catch in freestyle.

If you have a tendency to let your hands cross over in front of your face in freestyle, this drill could be just the fix. We saw this drill demonstrated in the Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen DVD, but it came up again recently when working with a young swimmer whose background was water polo.

Freestyle - Vary Your Recovery

When you're warming up for practice, it's common to feel tight, stiff, or just plain sore from your previous practice, or just because it's early. Sometimes just getting in and swimming hurts even more if you continue to repeat the exact same motion that got you sore to begin with.

Now that you're a few weeks into a new season, your shoulders SHOULDN'T be hurting but, in case they are, here's an IM kick set that will give them (and only them) a rest. This one's worth trying even if your shoulders are fine.
