There are sets that ask swimmers to descend time while maintaining a certain sendoff. There are sets that ask swimmers to maintain time while tightening the sendoff. There are sets that ask swimmers to descend time AND tighten the sendoff. This week's set is a little different in that it asks swimmers to descend time while ascending (increasing) the sendoff.
With the Pan Pacific games starting today... which country will dominate?
This week's set allows you to work on three focus points for freestyle: low breath, Early Vertical Forearm (EVF), and 6-beat kick.
We're a couple days late for Cinco de Mayo, but what the heck. This week's set requires that you can count to 5.
Got championships? This week's set can help you taper, but can also be a good anaerobic set at any point in the season.
Getting stuck in a swimming mantra, or a generally accepted "way" to do things, is very typical of all swimmers. Breaking through to find the way that works specifically for YOU is atypical, but necessary for you to reach your potential. The mantra that yours eyes should be looking DOWN is one of those mantras that each swimmer needs to examine for him... or her self.
One of the most important aspects of freestyle is sometimes the toughest one to get right. Taking your time to really feel the catch is a very smart idea.
With US Olympic Trials underway, we'll never get to everyone we've worked with, but we're cheering for them all. Here's the look we want to see on Kara Lynn Joyce's face after she swims this week.
