I did a really fun set this week. Swimming's a lot more fun when there's an element of surprise, you're working together with your lane, and when there's racing going on. 10x300 odds free evens IM, finish as quickly as possible In between each 300 was a "mystery set". There were 10 of them (1 for each digit) "Mystery sets" included drill work, dryland work, sprint pace work, and 1 "freebie" (get a drink of water and go back in) set. None of them lasted for more than 5-10 ish minutes. There was a stopwatch that you'd tell the coach to stop, the last digit of the stopwatch would determine which "mystery set" you'd get. (IE if it ends with 3 you get whatever the coach said a 3 would be, such as 10x50 kick @50.) The goal was to be the first lane to finish. The 1st person couldn't leave until the last person came in. Next time we do this set, the lanes get scrambled so everyone has a fair shot at getting recognition next time. Probably one of the most fun things I've done all season (sad to say?). Just was wondering what other fun sets other teams get to do. (If such a thread has been created already, could someone drop the link in here?) Thanks, and happy swimming! |

300 IM? I would die. But I like the spirit of the workout. |

Well, you can modify the set distance for the various skill levels. So some people did 250s or 200s instead, which is totally respectable as well. I also like the "design your own workout" type set. Coach assigns the 4 strokes, IM, kick, and pull, and gives you a bunch of distances to pick from.(ie 10x100s, 5x200s, 40x 25s) and you pair them up with whichever stroke you want, but you can only use each stroke/distance once. |
