Just back from another session designed to find out those who are mentally as well as physically strong:
25m SC pool
90 minutes

Warm up:
800m RevIM@15.00 as 50K; 50P; 100S each stroke
400m IM@8.00 as streamline kick - no board
200m RevIM@4.00 as 25D; 25S
100m IM@2.00 from a dive at Max

Main 'Drop Out' set:
5 x 100m IM @2.00 - as you feel
4 x 100m IM @1.50 - as you feel
3 x 100m IM @1.40 - starting to push the limits
2 x 100m IM @1.30 - almost there
1 x 100m IM @1.20 - MAX

Drop out if you failed to make a turn round and encourage everybody still swimming that set
Everybody start the next at the same time. If failed at any point on the previous set, continue swimming but on free, until fail to make the turn round again, then get out as above
We had 2 swimmers (23 year old male and 17 year old female) pitching at the final one with the other 40 swimmers cheering them on. Neither made it but gained respect all round.

1 x 100m IM Race from a dive - 8 heats of 5 swimmers - two opted out of the timed swim.
Warm down:
500m choice gentle

Great team building exercise and they had a great time. 4 actually swam faster than their existing 100 IM pb on the timed swim. Serious fun!!

Wow, tough workout for sure. Makes me shudder just reading it.

how old are these swimmers?????

Youngest was 10, oldest 45 but most were 15 - 17. One 12 year old got to swim 3 of the 3 x 1.40 before 'failing'. But, as usual we had our full range of swimmers in the water from 11 upwards. Our standard minimum age for the Monday session is 12 but if they are quick enough they come into the bottom 2 lanes from 10. Not a normal session for the youngest ones I hasten to add, but, occasionally, they enjoy the challenge of seeing how far they can get into a set with the older swimmers

Enjoy and set the turn rounds so that everybody gets to make some at least to begin with.
