Hey guys,

So summer is finally coming, race-days are just around the corner and for me it is time to start working on what is probably my weakest point in swimming - the dive.

Could anyone please share tips about their dive techniques?
(P.S. My dolphin kick and turns are fine, it's jumping off the blocks that's troubling me)

Thanks in advance!

Apparently it's really important to get your arms involved with pushing yourself off the block. But I have trouble too with visualizing how to do that properly.

But I know the guy with the best starts on my team can do starts with his eyes closed. He starts with his head facing backwards so that way his neck is in a neutral position. (as opposed to looking straight down.) I start with my eyes open because my balance isn't terrific and when I'm tense I sometimes worry I might fall off the block without the visual cues, but it's probably something worth trying.

When you enter, you want to aim to have your whole body enter through a "hula hoop"- so your toes pass through the same path your hands did. That would be a nice clean entry, where you don't disturb more water than you have to. (easier said than done, haha.)

What part of diving is your weak point?

Hi Big K,

I'm not so sure. I think I don't jump high enough or far enough and I'm a bit clueless about what I'm suppose to do with my hands before I enter the water (throw them forward? upwards? powerlock immediately or not etc).

Thanks for trying to help!
