What do you do with your old trophies?  Barbara found a box in the attic, and had some fun.

I can hear the kid in lane 4 now... "NOOOOOOOOO, THERE'S NO WATER IN THE POOL!!!!!"

Dad,......If you do this.....I'll hurt you and destroy your Gaita.....(...uh...galician bagpipes).

Keep your hands off.!!!!!!!

We could start a new branch of PETA called PETSA (or maybe PIZZA) ... People for the Ethical Treatment of Swim Awards :)

There could be a huge arguement about block size/height and FINA could get involved:)

I commented on the picture but the truth be told all of mine are in a box in the attic. My Mom and Dad dumped them on me several years ago when they moved to Florida.

I hear ya. Parent's somehow hang on to them, then love to remind us of all the baggage we've given them through the years. The dreaded "box o' awards". Now... what do we do with them? At least Barbara is having some fun with them.

I love the FINA getting involved in this. That's hilarious... and probably not too far from the truth!

Will the ceiling in the loft (attic) be strong enough?

Responded Oct 15, 2009 08:40PM

You can take a picture of all of em at a studio to have a nice portrait to hang somewhere.

Lucky for me I don't have any trophies yet. But I plan to compete for some in 2010 which will be my first competitive swimming experience.

Responded Oct 16, 2009 05:40AM

hahaha, a swim awards bathtub swim meet. Where will be the world champs? :D
I don't have any awards, only medals, so I don't have to worry about them sneaking out and trying to swim in the bathtub.

Responded Oct 16, 2009 07:40PM

I think FINA maybe should get involved and their first order is to find that aquatics director and maybe fire her. I mean really the starting blocks is one thing but to force these swimmers to dive into a "tupool" without water is criminal!! What fun.

HE Sprinter...we also have medals......Dad already has the idea of melting them ...hahahaha

Responded Oct 18, 2009 03:27AM

Recycle ~ reuse

Responded Oct 18, 2009 09:13AM

Melting?! Recycling?! Don't those medals and trophies mean anything to you?

Responded Oct 18, 2009 10:06AM

I've given some of my old medals to kids at camps. Not the great ones... But ones I got while about the same age as the kids I'm teaching. More of a gesture of thanks for working and listening... And if they keep that up they get their OWN really great ones. That's how I recycle. :)

Responded Oct 18, 2009 10:53PM

Love the idea of recycling them, Glenn! I can only imagine how cool it would've been for me as an age group swimmer to get a former trophy or medal of my coach's. What an honor!

Responded Oct 19, 2009 09:29AM

I have a grandfather who keeps himself busy with making racks for the 50+ medals I have....so...no melting for now, but I like the idea of giving them away whem I get older!!!!

Responded Oct 19, 2009 03:11PM

yes see the best is still recycle ~~~~~~ but not melting them

Responded Oct 20, 2009 04:16PM

We use to have some cool Cincinnati Marlin medals and I used them on my keychain.

Responded Oct 21, 2009 07:31PM

oh wow that's really an honor. I would be the happiest girl in the world if my coach gives me one of his medals.
