She is losing the catch of the stroke at the top of the pull due to leaning on her arm. Her weight is not balance; she is losing the best part of the catch. |

Swimchamp how would you fix this problem? After watching her close shoulder entry I wonder if she gets skin rashes from the swimming suit on her neck. I know I get them because I have that problem. Is her catch that bad? |

from the picture: Looks balanced as her head is straight and her hips and shoulders are in line. Looks like a very powerful kick. From the flow of the bubbles under her right arm, it also looks like a powerful pull and the pitch of her hand is "sending it forward".

A very wide an powerful kick which signals sprint freestyle...I think her left foot is a bit deep and she should work on improving her ankle flexibility. Good balance out in front and approaching the full extended position. As soon as she starts exiting with her elbow she has to initiate the catch. |

From the Picture: She's either got her head buried or is over reaching. Either way her line is broken. From the video: While her head definitely looks buried, it could just be the angle. However I think a more relaxed head position would benefit her. I'd also like to see a little less reach to enable an evf. Right now she's going out so far she has no option but to begin the pull with a straight arm and then transition to a late catch. All that said, I have a feeling that she here stroke (apart from the head) is very natural and effective for her. I don't think I'd monkey around with it (except the head). |

her down kick on pulling side is too late in the arm cycle, that is near the end of the push phase which results in late body rotation and thus lack of power generation throughout her entire arm pull/push; she needs to begin to rotate her body earlier in the arm cylce (immediately after grabbing an "armful of water" with an early vertical forearm, EVF, position) and to do that she needs to execute her down kick with the leg on her pulling side at that point in time; the two important kicks within a six beat kick are the two down kicks on the pulling side (done as soon as the arm is in the EVF position) since those are the movements that allow the body to rotate to the opposite side which is the power generating movement in free and back; a good way to demonstrate that to yourself is to leave the other four kicks out and just do a two beat kick at the correct time; you will be amazed at the results; in fact, some swimmers have broken world records using a two beat kick (Laure Manaudou in 400) |

Her body rotation is good but her head position could use some work. She also pauses on her kick occasionally. |
